Dorson Community Foundation is a non-profit organization
that was founded on the following principles: commitment,
trust, hope, faith and self-determination. The Foundation
was founded in 1992 and is headquartered in East Orange,
New Jersey.
Our Mission
It is the mission of the Dorson Community Foundation to
provide health, civic and social activities for youth and
seniors; to extend charity, stimulate education and foster
civic and recreational projects for the betterment of the
community.
Foundation Objectives
The Foundation is dedicated to its mission of opening doors,
creating opportunities, encouraging continuing education
and developing a sense of self-worth for the youth of the
community. To this end, the Foundation offers various training
programs, one of which is a program for people to become
Certified Home Health Aides, leading to a rewarding career
in the health care industry. Graduates may apply for employment
with Dorson Home Care or any of the state approved home
care organizations.
The Foundation also works to foster relationships between
the young and the elderly, focusing on shared experiences
and one-on-one communications. The Foundation attracts teachers
and investors alike who are truly motivated by a desire
to give something back to their community and to help these
young people with guidance and direction to become the community
leaders of tomorrow.
The following are some of the educational programs
the Foundation offers:
• Computer labs
• SAT & PSAT preparation Classes
• General business skills classes
• Pen Pal Program
Some of the other programs that have been implemented:

How Can I Help?
There are many ways in which you can contribute to the
success of the Foundation:
• Donate your time, e.g. teach a computer, business
or SAT class, offer an internship or apprenticeship, provide
legal guidance
• Provide financial support, e.g. book scholarship
to graduating senior, grant to fund training to teach business/computer
classes
• Donate training equipment and relevant materials,
e.g. computers and computer software
• Become a student mentor or “Executive on
Loan” to train a student on becoming a competent employee
in the business world
Dorson Community Foundation is a partner in education and
business. The goal is to improve
the performance and success of students of all ages by helping
them to develop responsibility and create positive opportunities
for them. Business leaders can help students become competent
employees in the high tech work places of tomorrow by providing
opportunities to learn through reasoning, creativity, decision-making
and problem solving. This will eventually help students
with responsibility, self-esteem, sociability and integrity.
